Introduction

• INFORMATIQUE (french) = Science & Techniques du traitement de l'INFORmation par une machine autoMATIQUE.
• Translation = "Computer Science". See PC = Personal Computer ("calculatrice" in french)
• Why ?
  To make complex computations by a machine (eg. missile'strajectory or message's decrypt)
• How ?
  Need of means to communicate with a computer:
  1. a text editor to describe what must be done in a high level language, and
  2. a translator, called "compiler", for the processor that only inderstand numbers.
• 3+1 fundamentals statements:
  1. affectation to store information,
     (+) declarations for memory allocation (to be linked to "data structure" concept),
  2. conditional branching, and
  3. absolute branching/jumping for loop and repetitive computations.
• Graphical representation of the algorithm (=principle) with a flowchart.
  Nb. A program is simply a translation of an algorithm into a given language (eg. C, VisualBasic,...).
